Contrast in Motivation –Value of the Chamber’s School Board Endorsements

By Alan Elmont. The Culver City Chamber of Commerce is in business to “promote the commercial and economic growth of Culver City, and to foster civic improvements that benefit the general welfare of those who live, work and visit here…” So wherein lies the motivation to endorse Dr. Steve Levin and Sue Robins – or any candidate – for the upcoming School Board elections? How should we voting citizens weigh such an endorsement?

Zirgulis Has Bad News for Naysayers

By Robert Zirgulis. The tremendous public support for fixing the Culver City school Natatorium building is overwhelming. Especially when I show people graphic pictures of what has happened to the formerly world class swimming pool. I have personally gathered over 1,500 signatures including...

Editor’s Note: Controversy has been swirling ever since Teachers Union President David Mielke announced here on the morning of Aug. 30 that, along with the Assn. of Classified Employees, they would be endorsing two first-time candidates and one incumbent in the School Board race. Why I Urged Caution on the Bond Measure – Goldberg

By Nancy Goldberg. [Editor’s Note: With the immediate fate of the postponed bond measure very much in the air at Tuesday night’s School Board meeting, Board member Nancy Goldberg read a prepared statement affirming her decision announced on July 1, urging a delay in placing it on the next available ballot.]

How to Build Wide Support for the Must-Pass Bond Measure

Editor’s Note: In a note appended to her letter regarding last evening’s School Board meeting, the president of United Parents of Culver City said that parents representing numerous schools petitioned the Board “to move forward” on the temporarily delayed bond measure. She mentioned Jamie Wallace, Leslie Brazille, Angela Dyborn, Crystal Alexander, and a note from Paul Walsleben.
