If City Meant Its Word, Why Was a Downtown...

It was very interesting last Monday to watch the City Council discuss the temporary rental of 120 public parking spaces near Vets’ Park for $60 per parking spot. The rental is meant to prevent construction workers at the Sony lot from parking in the surrounding neighborhood.

Times Scurries to Correct Ridley-Thomas Error as Senator’s Aide Chastises Corlin...

In response to Mr. Alan Corlin’s letter to the editor last Friday (“Corlin, a Parks Backer, Says His Candidate Is Doing the Honorable Thing”), I wish to make two points:

(1) Mr. Corlin makes reference to Independent Expenditure committees and “receiving candidates.” He specifically says, "Now to be fair about it, the law does specify that the group giving the money can have no “coordination” with the candidate it gives to. This gives the receiving candidate a sort of Get Out of Jail Free card. Legally, the candidate has no obligation to any of us regarding the acceptance of the cash."

Corlin, a Parks Backer, Says His Candidate Is Doing the Honorable...

I certainly understand reporter Garth Sanders’ statements regarding Bernard Parks’ campaign (“Parks Too Busy Paying Off Old Debts to Campaign, Ridley-Thomas Charges,” Oct. 8).

It is always illuminating to know where one’s support comes from and even more enlightening to know what sort of message it sends.

I believe Bernard Parks’ campaign for County Supervisor on Nov. 4 mirrors his style and demeanor. He is a straight talking, down to earth politician.

He is getting his message out in a way that resonates with the constituents he hopes to represent.

Going into Final (?) Hearing, Kutcher Seeks Recirculation of Draft EIR

[Editor’s Note: On the eve of this morning’s presumably final public hearing at 9 o’clock downtown by the County Regional Planning Commission on recommendations it will forward to the County Board of Supervisors regarding governance of the Inglewood oil field, Ken Kutcher sent the letter below. A leader of the Greater Baldwin Hills Alliance, a citizens group concerned about health and safety issues, Mr. Kutcher was reacting to the most recently edited Community Standards District and Environmental Impact Report.]

Community Meeting on Schools and Speeding Cars — No Quick Solutions

[Editor’s Note: This was written in the aftermath of last night’s community meeting, convened by School Board member Scott Zeidman, over the issue of curbing speeding vehicles around the campuses of Culver City schools.]

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Enclosed is some information that I received from Kathy Bordiga about the history of the Stop sign at Coombs and Farragut Drive that she sent to one of the School Board members.

An Invitation to Join Your Neighbors

Are you tired of increased traffic congestion in your city?

Are developments in your part of town out of character with your neighborhood?

Would you like to see changes that enhance the positive qualities of Culver City?

Kudos to Blumenfeld for Unique Plan to Preserve Neighborhood Charm

At Wednesday night’s meeting of the Planning Commission, Community Development Director Sol Blumenfeld hit a home run with a proposal to record and quantify the unique character of Culver City's multi-family neighborhoods.

Is Obama Really Being Treated Fairly? I Don’t Think So

I’m a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight...

If you grow up in Hawaii and are raised by your grandparents, you’re “exotic, different.”

Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you’re a quintessential American story.

If your name is Barack you’re a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

Kutcher’s Latest Message: County’s Attitude Toward Baldwin Hills EIR Is...

[Editor’s Note: Eight days before the County Regional Planning Commission is scheduled to vote on regulations governing drilling in the Inglewood Oil Field, here is the latest 1,000-word urgent dispatch from the indefatigable citizens’ group leader Ken Kutcher to the County, which he sent this morning. Mr. Kutcher represents the Greater Baldwin Hills Alliance.]

What Do an Elephant and Parking Just Off Downtown...

Culver City is ignoring the elephant in the room. At last Monday’s City Council meeting, the elephant was pointed out and all but one of the four Council members in the room looked the other way.

If you visit the Downtown neighborhood on any weekday morning, you cannot miss the usual sights: Parents driving their children to school, and then trying to find parking. After quickly filling up the entire available street parking, parents use the former Culver City parking lot at 4043 Irving Pl.
