Proceeding Blindly, the Case Against Drop-Dead Equality
By Bob Leabow. As I recall with a blast from the past, blind people and postal workers (before they went postal) could ride public transit for free. Is the problem like most of our laws -- one size fits all, with no exceptions? A blind person cannot drive a car, at least today with existing technology. But other disabled people can. Since a blind person cannot drive and in many situations is very limited to the type of work he/she can do, should all disabled people be treated equal?
Pasadena Residents’ Generosity Being Misused by School District
By Gaylaird Christopher. Education is an important key indicator in predicting our success as a society. Additionally, it encompasses a valuable legacy each generation can pass on to the next. The generosity of our Pasadena community in approving over $500M in expenditures on new and renovated school buildings reflects this commitment. Once again our community’s generosity is being misused. The current fiscal mismanagement follows the several documented failings of Measure Y:
Early Estimate – 12,000 at West L.A. College Fireworks
By John Cohn. Although we still are working on the numbers, I would estimate the fireworks show crowd last Friday was north of 12,000. That is a rough estimate. In the final tally, it could be remarkably more. In another day, I may have a better figure. All I can say is, the crowds kept coming. ESL Professor Hammers PCC for Depriving Students
By Steve A. Pell. If we knew then, what we know now. Since the academic agenda of Pasadena City College is to serve college students where students are the reasons we, as employees, are employed, helping "ALL" of our students, and not just some, seems to be the best place to start. A large amount of our students here at PCC are non-native English speakers who are enrolled in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. Without such instruction in ESL, these students would have a challenging battle trying ...
