Sierra Club and League of Conservation Voters Endorse Weissman
Two respected environmental groups, the Sierra Club and the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters, this week declared their support for Andy Weissman, the most experienced City Council candidate in a nine-person field for the April 8 election.
Each cited Mr. Weissman’s commitment to the environment and his advocacy of green building standards in supporting his candidacy.
“We need to take seriously our role as a city in reducing our environmental footprint,” he said, “when it comes to everything from recycling and reusing waste to requiring buildings to be built to the highest environmental standards.”

Keeping Track of the City Council Candidates This Weekend
All quiet on the Candidate Front for a few more days.
No organized group appearances by the nine contenders for three seats on the City Council are scheduled until a week from tomorrow night when the Culver Crest Neighborhood Assn. hosts a Candidate Forum — apparently the next to last one — at 6:30 at El Rincon School.

Little League Season Will Open Saturday — if the Skies Go...
Will Saturday be Opening Day for the 53rd season of the Culver City National Little League or won’t it?
Depends on the weatherman.
All week, he has been saying that Culver City will be varying degrees of damp, or plain drenched, into Sunday afternoon.
At the moment, Opening Day ceremonies are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, and continue for 90 minutes, at Bill Botts Field.

Weissman Campaign on Fire with New Endorsement
The Culver City Firefighters Assn. said today they have endorsed Planning Commissioner Andy Weissman in his bid for a seat on the City Council on the April 8 ballot.
Bob De La Puente, president of the Fire Union, explained why he and his colleagues were impressed.
“Andy’s willingness to listen to city employees on issues of importance to them and his experience as a community leader will make him an excellent member of the City Council,” he said.

First Uniforms, Then Scoreboards
Not only will the 400 boys and girls in the Culver City National Little League be resplendent this season in newly donated uniforms, they will keep track of their games this spring on two colorful new scoreboards that also were donated.
The owners of Westfield Fox Hills mall have presented both gifts to the Little League.
“They really have stepped up as a major sponsor this year,” said Chi Netzel, Director of Fundraising for the league. “We can’t begin to express our gratitude for all they have done for our league.”
