The Most Important Thing To Do Is Really Listen will be presented next week, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug.9-11, at 8 o’clock.

Recruitment, written by Emma Niles, follows a young man named Thomas on his search for true identity. Having just run away from his former life, Thomas is picked up while hitchhiking by Laura, a chatty young woman who invites him to join the community in which she lives.

Once there, Thomas is introduced to “the family,” a group of diverse people living in harmony under a set of ideals created by their leader, a charismatic man known only as Father. As Thomas becomes more immersed in the family, Laura begins to pull away, leading to conflict in their relationship and within the community. When Father makes a rash decision that puts the lives of the family at risk, Thomas must re-examine himself and decide where his loyalty lies.

The Most Important Thing to Do Is Really Listen examines different perspective on guilt, time, age, attraction, politics, events and group dynamics. This is done through a series of original vignettes created by the company. Each piece is developed through group discussion and workshop performances. Each vignette attempts to answer the questions of the different perspectives surrounding controversial issues, how and why they exist. The audience will be asked to provide feedback through comments and a talkback with the team, leading to further developments of the project.

SKITco.’s mission is to produce works that reflect an innovative approach to collaboration. SKITco. uses an inclusive process in which every artist takes creative ownership of the piece as a whole. As college students, SKITco. creates projects that the company finds compelling to its generation. All company members are currently studying theatre arts at various institutions, making our productions a collaborative compilation of our skills, commitment and enthusiasm for the theater.
