The company, under the guidance of Creative Director Sheila Silver, was awarded first prize in the region for the second consecutive year by the California Educational Theatre Assn.

The show originally had nine sold-out performances in November at the intimate Sony Pictures Black Box Theatre.

The Laramie Project is being re-worked for a larger venue, as it will be performed on the Mainstage before 2,000 theatre students at the California Educational Theatre Assn. festival on MLK weekend in mid-January.

Twelve years after the death of Matthew Shepard, the powerful Laramie Project seeks to lead its audiences toward the requisite insight and understanding necessary to address the hate crimes and bullying that continue in schools and communities.

Theatregoers have called this experience an evening of superb drama staged by dedicated students.

A week from tomorrow night this will be the last chance to see this award-winning production.

Tickets are $10, available at the door. Funds raised at this performance will go directly to help with the cost transportation for sets, equipment, and students.

Important note: The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts play presents mature content that is not recommended for children under 14 unless accompanied by an adult.
