Summer only is 50 percent gone, and after tonight’s farewell concert, Culver City’s Boulevard Music Summer Festival will be all the way gone for this season.
Last chance time is 7 o’clock in the Courtyard of City Hall to see producer Gary Mandell’s curtain-dropping attraction, a show called Americana Country.
In the spotlight are actor Robert David Hall, guitarist Carl Verheyen, no stranger to the Courtyard crowd, and rockabilly music, starring Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys.”
“Robert David Hall is known to millions as the quirky coroner on ‘CSI,’” says Mr. Mandell.
“But what they don’t know is that he is an accomplished songwriter, singer and guitarist.
“He recently released a CD, ‘Things They Don't Teach You In School,’ that was praised in music magazines. They called Hall a ‘songwriter of uncommon depth.’
“Carl Verheyen will be bringing his usual stellar bandmates, Pat Colgan (guitar), Ken Deifik (harmonica), Matt Cartsonis (almost anything), Putter Smith (bass), Sinclair Lott (drums), Craig Eastman (fiddle), Judy Hall (cello).
“Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys have been together for 25 years,” Mr. Mandell, the owner of Boulevard Music, says. “Their musicianship and their longevity have made them a touchstone in the roots music scene in the U.S. They have consistently wowed audience.
