If you are an occasional fan of the Philharmonic, you may not recognize Mr. Mickelthwates name. Esa-Pekka Salonen has been the Music Director and principal conductor and music director since 1992, following an illustrious trio that included Zubin Mehta (1962-1978), Carlo Maria Giulini (1978-1984)and Andre Previn (1985-1989). In the 87-year history of the L.A. Phil, Mr. Salonen has served longer than any of the other 9 conductors except for Mr. Mehta
