Name for a Day
“Breakfast and a Movie in Culver City” is what KTLA is calling this unique edition, and, among other features, it will be heavily peppered — salted? — with hometown restaurants.
More than a dozen eateries will be represented, and, even better, they will be handing out food.
During the show, there will be taped specials on Harry Culver, the Founding Father of Culver City, and his namesake, the Culver Hotel; the Helms Bakery, now and then; and one of the more recent unique attractions in Downtown, the Wonderful World of Animation.
Last Choo Choo to Leave
Live features will cover the closing of historic Allied Trains on Sepulveda Boulevard, a backlot tour of Sony Pictures, and an “Ask the Anchors” segment with Lu Parker.
Restaurant interviews are planned from Santa Maria BBQ, the Bluebird Café, J.J.’s Café, Double Dutch Dinette, Daphne’s Greek Café, the Roll ‘n Rye, Ford’s Filling Station, the Beacon, Grand Casino and Bakery, Bistro de L’Heritage, Howdy’s Taqueria and Al’s Flying Garage.
Lucky 100
All early bird fans of the Morning Show, at least for Friday, have to do is show up.
The rest of their morning will be covered for them by KTLA.
For 100 audience members who arrive in Town Plaza, free tickets will be given to see the first showing (at 10:30) of the new film, “Shrek the Third,” several feet away, inside the Pacific Theatres.
The free tickets, KTLA explained, will become available at 8 a.m., on a first-come, first-served basis.
Three Weeks Ago
Steve Rose, president/CEO of the co-sponsoring Chamber of Commerce, said the television production has been in the works for three weeks, ever since KTLA knocked on Culver City’s door. City Hall is the other half of the sponsorship team.
Five sets of special guests are scheduled for the three-hour show:
- Students from the El Marino School,
- Mayor Alan Corlin and the other four members of the City Council,
- The Debbie Allen Dance Academy, featuring hip hop dancers with Dave Scott,
- Lenn Goodman of “Dancing With the Stars,” and
- Actress Cheri Oteri, the voice of Sleeping Beauty in “Shrek the Third.”
