All that jazz you have wanted to hear live comes to life tonight at 7 when the second round of Culver City’s Boulevard Music Summer Festival becomes airborne in the Courtyard of City Hall.
The free concert presents jazz guitarist Stephane Wrembel as the centerpiece attraction, and producer Gary Mandell promises – but does not guarantee – a rain-free evening.
Last Thursday, the bodies, but not the enthusiasm, of the large audience large audience were dampened by a steady, and most unusual, after-dark mist.
Naturally, Mr. Mandell the quipster, came prepared. “It took us a lot of years, but we finally matched the (studio) people across the street who made ‘Singing in the Rain,’” he said.
Says Mr. Mandell of tonight’s star:
“Stephane Wrembel scored a No. 1 hit with his song ‘Bistro Fada,’ which he composed for Woody Allen’s ‘Midnight in Paris.’
“This song pushed the Midnight in Paris soundtrack to No. 1 for three weeks on the iTunes soundtrack charts. It has been in the top 25 for more than five months. The song has become a new guitar standard.
“A few months ago, Stephane played live during the Academy Awards. He performed along with Pharrell and Esperaza Spaulding among others as part of the All-Star Band. Stephane has released four critically acclaimed albums, including one with the legendary David Grisman. He has toured nationally with Mark O'Conner.
“Stephane will be touring behind his new album ‘Origins.’”
