[Editor’s Note: In tribute to Sunday afternoon’s spectacular annular solar eclipse over Los Angeles, the poet laureate of Culver City composed this poem that she read to her poetry group yesterday morning. Dr. Hoult notes that the profession of her husband Charley was misidentified in Monday’s followup story. He is a rocket scientist/aerospace engineer.]
Re “Look, but Not Too Closely”
Although there often is a ring
Around the moon’s dark shadow
It was still an awesome thing
That moved and set the sky aglow
As the sun made its descent…
Through the clouds the moon did sail
And made the sun look like a crescent
But also like a fingernail!
