Joshua Sinclair's true life drama “Jump,” starring the late Patrick Swayze, in his last motion picture role, and Ben Silverstone, will screen at the Backlot Film Festival on its second evening, Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7:45.
The Backlot Film Festival, running from Wednesday, Oct. 7 through Saturday, Oct. 10, will be held at Veterans Memorial Building, 4117 Overland Ave., Culver City.
In “Jump,” Swayze plays Jewish lawyer Richard Pressburger in Austria in 1928 who defends young Phillippe Halsman (Silverstone), a Jewish youth accused of murdering his father.
This compelling courtroom drama is played out during the rise of National Socialism (Nazism) and the growing prejudice of local citizens against the Jewish people.
Two dollars from each ticket sold for the Oct. 8 screening of Jump will be donated to the Sol Goldman Pancreatic Cancer Research Center at Johns Hopkins University in memory of Swayze, who died on Monday of pancreatic cancer.
Born Aug. 18, 1952, in Houston, Swayze, in addition to being an actor, was an accomplished dancer and singer-songwriter.
He was best known for his roles in “Dirty Dancing,” “Ghost” and as Orry Main in the “North and South” television series. Swayze's last television role was the lead in the A&E TV series “The Beast,” which premiered last January.
Sinclair, the writer, and director of Jump, is multitalented. A medical doctor specializing in tropical diseases, Sinclair worked with Mother Teresa in India and has worked in various parts of Africa. He is the producer of the television mini-series “Shaka Zulu.” He also is a best-selling novelist, film and television writer, actor, producer and director.
Sinclair said persons who wish to contribute directly to the Pancreatic Research Center should send their donation to
