[Editor’s Note: The wife of School Board President Scott Zeidman stepped to the microphone last night and paid tribute to his celebrated and also departing partner on the Board, Steve Gourley.]

Good evening.

My name is Aileen Zeidman. Yes, that Zeidman

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Steve Gourley for his four years of hard work and successes.

Steve has been more than an effective Board member. He has been a mentor to my husband. He has been the driving force behind some of the excellent things the Board has accomplished over the past four years.

Steve has made the Board of Education relevant. Just look, historically, at the School Board elections. In 2003, a total of just over 3,500 votes were cast. In 2007, just over 5,000 votes were cast.

In 2009 and 2011, after Steve made the Board relevant again, a total of more than 18,500 combined were cast on the school Board candidates.

Like him or hate him, and there are many of you in each camp, Steve has done an excellent job.

Thank you, Steve, for your tireless efforts and your successes. You will be missed.
