Re “Bullet Voting ‘Highly Unethical, Extremely Damaging, Corrupting the Process’”
I read Laura Stuart’s essay yesterday about bullet voting and have to say that it is a campaign strategy, no different than sending out a “hit piece” the weekend before the election.
The fact is, a candidate who lost by the draw of a marble, or 20 votes, is a candidate who did not get the vote out for himself/herself.
Anyone who says it is unethical to bullet vote is telling the voters they don't have the right to vote for whom they wish, which in my opinion is unethical.
The facts are clear: In Culver City, there are very strong campaign teams, sometimes referred to as machines, who seem to consistently get their candidates elected.
What those who continue to lose should do is not obsess with getting political endorsements, but rather get the boots on the street, shake hands with as many people as possible, get new voters involved, and learn how to use the system to your advantage rather than calling the winning team names.
Politics is an art, no matter what city you are in. Losing isn't fun. But it should be a lesson learned.
Maybe, just maybe, the best candidates actually won.
Time will tell.
