Re “Geragos Is the New Face for the Family in the Armory Murder Case

Gerald Bennett’s often contentious fight to gain an appropriate measure of fiscal compensation for his sister’s bludgeoning murder four years ago at the National Guard Armory, may take a sharp turn toward what he believes to be justice on Monday morning.

The family’s new attorney, the celebrated Mark Geragos, has given the exasperated Mr.

Bennett renewed optimism that the Bennett-Harris surviving siblings will begin to achieve their goal.

Having gone through a succession of attorneys since the brutal killing of his youngest sister, JoAnn Crystal Harris, who was pregnant in August of 2007, he is convinced that justice is closer than it ever has been.

Earlier family lawyers spoke of 7-figure settlements, $3 million to $5 million.

Suddenly, the settlement figure plummeted.

For the past year, the most recent legal team has been parked on $400,000.

Mr. Bennett called those terms unacceptably light.

Mr. Geragos is expected to seek a jury trial when the case is re-opened in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom.

The $400,000 number was proposed by still another lawyer who claimed at a point that Mr. Bennett’s mother, Martha Lou Harris, who died in August, agreed to the settlement while hospitalized last year.

Mr. Bennett vehemently rejects the assertion, and he hopes that Mr. Geragos is his ticket to justice.
