I always remind my students of their fortune to be playing the cello. It is such a naturally beautiful and alluring instrument, it attracts attention wherever it goes… along with its owners.

This weekend was no different. Saturday evening, a few of my students and I gathered to perform some of the songs from our upcoming concert for the Santa Ana Art Walk. They each also played a solo (with me accompanying).

Starting hesitantly, unsure of how it was going to work playing music into microphones on an outdoor promenade with people strolling by, they soon got into the flow of the performance. People clapped or approached us after nearly every song, offering compliments and taking concert announcement cards.

By the end, we only stopped playing because we ran out of music… and were getting hungry. The crowd enjoyed hearing a cello quartet, my students gained valuable casual performance experience, and I had the opportunity to see my dream of bringing the cello into mainstream O.C. culture one step further.

This performance was only a preview of our upcoming free concert scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 20, at 11a.m. Please visit www.occellochoir.com
