Re “Do We Need ‘Machine’ Approval to Run for Office?”
I was not being critical of how easy it is to become a candidate in our democracy last week when I wrote “All Aboard for the Abrams/Zirgulis Campaign Train.” It should be easy. But I was being very jocose about how some citizens seem to find the electoral process so easy to abuse for their own personal agendas.
The real question about Robert Zirgulis’s newest campaign is this: Is he really, truly running for the School Board? Or is he just trying to persuade the public to get on board with his latest grandiose idea.
Do you remember his obsession over getting rid of the red-light cameras awhile back? And what about his idea to charge fees for PXP to drill under Culver City?
Self-Financed Campaigns
The fact that he, himself, has had to finance his own past campaigns and cannot find anyone else to finance them, should be telling him something.
I wonder how much he received in donations the last time he ran for School Board. It couldn’t have been much, if any, because he later sent out a post-election letter, asking for help in retiring his campaign debt. Did he receive anything in return? That, too, should be telling him something.
Alas, Mr. Zirgulis does not seem to want to listen.
As for Gary Abrams’ response, it was “classic Abrams!”
