Gary Mandell of Boulevard Music, the pun-loving impresario of the Thursday night Summer Music Festival concerts in the Courtyard of City Hall, was rumbling around in search if an eye-catching way to promote tonight’s 7 o’clock show:
The headliner is returning attraction Ricardo Lemvo, who specializes in Afro-Cuban salsa, and his Makina Loca group.
Finally, Mr. Mandell looked up, possibly the way miners did 162 years ago at Sutter’s Creek when they made a strike.
“Culver City,” he said, “has an historical affinity for Cubans named Ricardo.”
Half a century ago, Culver City Studios was known as Desilu Studios, home of Lucky and Ricky Ricardo.
And so, in Week Three of the eight-week Summer Music Festival season, the entertainment can start as early as 4:30 when longtime regulars start arriving, with their casual dinners in hand. Limited free underground parking is available.
