Re “Lin Howe Parents Plead for Kindergartens, but Decsions Are Made Elsewhere”
I was moved by the concern of Linood E.Howe parents, their heartfelt enthusiasm for their kindergarten program and the threat they might lose one of their classes because of the budget cuts.
On Monday, I had substituted for Ms. Pomeroy's kindergarten class at El Rincon. I was impressed how well she has taught her class. The children were so well behaved and filled with enthusiasm to learn.
I think one of the best and important assets Culver CIty Unified School District has is its kindergarten teachers.
Kindergarten is the foundation that sets the future for our students. It sets them on the right track. This is the time when the gift tool of learning how to read starts. If a child doesn't know how to read, he will definitely fall by the wayside in later years.
This is why I think it is important to keep our kindergarten program intact and not sacrifice any teacher to more budget cuts.
