Re “The Other Three Board Members Speak on Jaffe Contract”
To the School Board:
About the open Superintendent position: I know you have the best interests of the District and the students in mind.
It seems to me that at the end of the day you need to be able to make the choice based on the most qualified applicants.
As a member of the general public and the parent of a CCUSD student, it makes sense that the Board of Ed review the job performance and actions of Interim Supt. Patti Jaffe along with the other qualified applicants so that you can choose the best person for the job.
An amendable contract clause shouldn't be what is stopping the Board from considering all qualified applicants.
I don't think the restrictive clause in Ms. Jaffe's contract was generally known, except to those who frequent the School Board meetings. Therefore, I don't see any unfairness to the other applicants.
If I were applying for the job, I would naturally assume that the interim person was being considered for the job. At the end of the day, I personally don't care if the applicants or anyone else considers it not “fair” to amend Ms. Jaffe's contract.
My sole interest is that the Board chooses the best possible person for the job. That person is one who will keep the needs of the students, faculty, staff, and public in mind.
Thanks for listening. I intend on attending the next School Board meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 9, to see how the public discussion goes.
