Mason Mulvihill is ready to connect
The inaugural season of Westside Baseball is nearing completion, with less than one week remaining in the regular season. Westside Baseball is a combination of the long-standing Westchester Babe Ruth League, along with players from Culver City, and elsewhere. Games are held primarily at Bill Botts Field and Ivan Miller Field.
League President Chris Lynch is ecstatic with the league’s partnership with the City of Culver City, explaining, “The membership continues to benefit from the collective efforts of the league’s administration that rests on a foundation of strong leadership and razor-sharp focus on what’s best for all the players, regardless of skill level. Westside Baseball Club applauds the efforts and collaboration of Culver City Parks and Recreation, namely Daniel Hernandez and his staff, for their partnership in maintaining Bill Botts’s Lower Field.”
Babe Ruth World Series Manager John Lopatto commended the Culver City staff as well. “It is so great to work in collaboration with the city staff from Culver City,” Mr. Lopatto said. “I only wish we had done this years ago. Breaking the league into two divisions, (allowing for differing skill levels) has made the games competitive and given each player an opportunity to excel. It’s been great.”
Alex Galaviz, manager of the Orioles, spoke of the mission of the league. “Westside Baseball is not all about winning and losing,” he said. “Instead it is about teaching baseball, teamwork and dealing with success and failure. We teach skills that further mental and physical development, a respect for the rules of the game and the ideals of sportsmanship and fair play.”
