Mr. Barris, left.

For many car buffs, tomorrow is the best day of the year, the 10th renewal of the Exchange Club’s Cruisin’ Back to the ‘50s Car Show, all over Downtown.

The official hours are 9 to 3. Informal entertainment starts long before, and it lingers well after mid-afternoon.

How early? From Mike McCormick of the Fire Dept. comes this word:

Culver City firefighters annual Pancake Breakfast and Open House will be a major feature of the day-long celebration, and the first pancakes will fly off the grill at 8 a.m.

After a decade, the day before Mother’s Day by now is an established Culver City tradition.

Between 400 and 500 classic cars are distributed throughout the business district – for the inspection, for the caressing of car lovers.

In addition to the classic cars and hot rods from across California, exhibitors, vendors and musical performances will dot Downtown streets.

George Barris, the noted car customizer and creator of the Batmobile, the Munsters' Koach and the Beverly Hillbillies' jalopy, among others, will have some of his creations on display.

The Exchange Club and City Hall both have emphasized that there is no parking in the adjacent residential neighborhoods, that permit parking rules will be actively enforced.

Your options?  The array of Downtown parking structures – Ince, Cardiff, Watseka – or under City Hall if you arrive early enough.
