An open announcement in front of microphones and cameras, revealing mayoral candidate Eric Garcetti’s secret pledge to appoint right-winger Kevin James the deputy mayor, caused an uproar at this morning’s Los Angeles City Council meeting.

The Los Angeles Times is well aware of the mutual deal these two mismatched pols happily have entered into.

Eighteen days before the May 21 runoff election, though, the Times will not breathe a word of this “curious understanding” so as not to further harm Mr. Garcetti’s fading mayoral chances.

Meanwhile, the Times persists in endorsing Mr. Garcetti in its increasingly irrelevant editorial section.

Simultaneously, it unethically inflates its shaky, onesided profile of Tricky Ricky in its ostensible news pages.

The unexpectedly-delivered news of the so-secret pledge to hand Mr. James the $125,000 a year job provoked an uproar you can watch at LACITY.ORG.
