[Editor’s Note: The School Board member sent this letter to state Assembly candidate Sebastian Ridley-Thomas regarding tomorrow’s special election.]

Dear Sebastian,

A baseline expectation I have for the politicians I support is that they will stick to the issues and refrain from personal attacks.

Those standards are especially important to us here in Culver City, where our elected officials are our neighbors. Win or lose, it’s character that counts.

I was very disappointed by two recent mailers from Chris Armenta’s campaign for state Assembly that don’t live up to those standards. We have just been through a very bitter School Board campaign.

We don’t need more of the same.

While I wish him well and appreciate his service to Culver City, I have decided to withdraw my endorsement of him.

While Mr. Armenta’s  “hometown” connection was an important motivation for me to support him initially, I am very impressed with your awareness of what makes Culver City tick. As an educator and member of our School Board, I appreciate your focus on early childhood education.

I am pleased to offer my endorsement of your campaign. I am confident that you offer the calibre of leadership Culver City expects.

I look forward to working with you on issues affecting our community. I am especially interested in meeting with you to discuss education, workforce development and career pathways.
