Your editors were free to let you loose once the national media initially broke the story of the Keystone Cops’ approach of Patrick Gannon’s LAX police officers.
I am talking about the chaotic happenings last Friday in response to the shooter who employed the unguarded main entrance to Terminal 3 and stroll around the terminal while shooting down people at will with a rifle that he had promptly removed once inside from his obviously suspicious duffel bag.
Our advice for another great story:
Ask LAPD Chief Charlie Beck to go off the record on his frank opinion of Mr. Gannon. Awhile back, he was a rival of Mr. Beck's for the coveted job of Chief!
Instead, Poor Gannon ended up with the Airport booby prize. This uniformed chump ultimately proved on Friday to be undeserving of even that lowly consolation.
Reporters Weikel and Nelson, your great Times story this morning revealing the full extent of the Terminal 3 chaos has broken the ice. Now it's perfectly safe for the copycat mainstream dinosaur media, such as KPCC and KCRW, to join in teeing off and piling on Chief Gannon.
Mark these words: “Patrick Gannon's days are numbered as Airport Chief of Police.”
The federal investigation report on Friday (which has just begun) is widely expected to be stinging when it comes to the City of Los Angeles maintaining even minimally satisfactory LAX terminal security for TSA personnel and passengers alike.
As a matter of record, this website was the very first to call for Mr. Gannon's ouster a few days ago on our blog…while it was still politically-incorrect to do so!
The absolute worst vote I have ever been guilty of during my entire life was some time ago when I cast my ballot against amending the City Charter to do away with the airport police force.
There was absolutely no reaction at L.A. City Council this morning to your Front Page Lead Story delving into the LAX tragedy.
Instead the City Council members, as usual, remained focused on such “weighty” matters as passing unanimous commendatory resolutions honoring those community members responsible for stuff like saving the dyslexic sea otters.
