The campaign to elect Claudia Vizcarra to School Board invites the community to a fundraiser for the candidate on Sunday, Oct. 13.
A box lunch in Media Park, provided by the Tito’s Tacos, will be followed by a seat at the play Oy! at The Actor’s Gang Theater at the Ivy Substation.
A unique after-play commentary from the stage is being offered as a package for $50 a person. The play without lunch is $40.
Lunch will be served at 12:30 and the performance begins at 2.
The play is written by Helene Cixous and directed by Georges Bigot. It is the story of two German Jewish sisters living in Paris who visit the city of their childhood. When they return home, they discuss the variety of emotions, opinions and memories that have surfaced.
The play raises the question of forgiveness, the work of memories and transmission to new generations, and the state of modern racism throughout the world. It is emotional, humorous and compelling.
Ms. Vizcarra, with two children in Culver City schools, said she is running for a seat on the School Board because she will be able to use her years of experience working with policymakers, parents, community groups, teachers and district staff to help the district transition to the new Common Core standards.
Being bi-lingual and bi-cultural, Ms. Vizcarra believes, provides her with a strong understanding of various segments of the community. Her goal is that Culver City students remain curious, inspired and focused on learning. Working collectively, she says, this can be accomplished.
