[img]1656|left|||no_popup[/img]The Culver City Historical Society is sponsoring a Costume Contest on Sunday morning at Vets Park, the third and final day of Fiesta La Ballona, commemorating Culver City’s early California heritage.
The 10:30 competition will be staged near the Entertainment Tent in Vets.
Contestants are encouraged to dress as Native Americans, Spanish colonials, rancheros or pioneers.
Costumes will be judged on authenticity, creativity and representation of the period. Prizes will be awarded to the winners in all divisions.
The competition categories include:
• Boys 12 years old and under
• Girls 12 years old and under
• Men
• Women
History at Close Range
On the last two days of Fiesta, the Historical Society’s Archives and Resource Center, behind the Vets Auditorium, will be open – from 12 to 4 on Saturday and from 12 to 4 on Sunday.
Five Reasons
1. Visit with City Historian Julie Lugo Cerra. She will be signing her new book, “Chronicles of Culver City,” on Saturday from 2 to 4. She will be happy to answer questions.
2. See the debut of the new Culver City Historical Society Merchandise shop space. Unique gifts will be available for purchase..
3. Check out the display of historical Fiesta memorabilia.
4. Inspect the colorful costume worn by Jimmy Durante when he played “Pop Wonder” in Billy Rose’s Jumbo, filmed by MGM in 1962.
5. It is air conditioned.
