This is how you celebrate when you win a trip to the World Series. Photo, Scott Zeidman.

For the first time in 57 years, Westside Baseball’s Westchester Babe Ruth has two teams competing in the World Series.  The 15-and-under team that participated in the World Series in Utah as 14-year-olds, is traveling to Virginia to challenge nine other regional winners.  The 14-and-under team is traveling to Moses Lake, WA, for a shot at the World Series championship.  Both World Series tournaments begin on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Due to circumstances outside of their control, the teams now must raise in excess of $15,000.  This need was unknown and unexpected.  Community members and establishments are joining  to help out.  Culver City’s newest frozen yogurt shop, Zinga (4114 Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City) and Culver City’s newest pizza establishment, Blaze Pizza (also at 4114 Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City), are pitching in to help out.  Both Zinga and Blaze are part of the new Culver Crossroads shopping center on the southeast corner of Washington Boulevard and Sepulveda.

Players are holding a car wash on Saturday, from 8 to 2 o’clock, at the Gas Co. Field parking lot,  8141 Gulana Ave., Playa del Rey 90293.  On Sunday, the players and coaching staff are offering a clinic for Little League-aged players, also at Gas Co. Field.

Players on the World Series-bound teams come from Culver City, Westchester, Playa del Rey, Marina del Rey, Ladera, Santa Monica and Inglewood.
