Re “Cooper’s Position: Advantage or Not in Principal Derby?”
Keeping in mind that Dr. Lisa Cooper has been serving as interim principal for the past four months, a potentially ticklish question was put to Supt. Dave LaRose:
With the School District’s formal search for a permanent principal of Culver City High School due to get under way soon, if you were the interim principal and a candidate, would you regard your standing as a plus or a minus?
Ever the infectiously upbeat optimist, Mr. LaRose said:
“I would always see that as an opportunity.
“Then I would be making my case based on my performance, not based on my resume or how effectively I interview.
“There is always that opportunity. I always have said, and it is not particular to this circumstance, it is important to be clear, transparent, committed and convicted about your process.
“If you say this is a critical role, we are fortunate we have an effective, dynamic internal team.
“However,” said Mr. LaRose, “we will do a formal process. There will be a posting. There will be site engagement in that decision process. There will be a collaborative team. There will be extensive screening,” the superintendent added with typical thoroughness.
“There will be a very regimented process because we want to do everything we possibly can to make a very, very, very important decision.”
