Thirteen months and 24 hours after a now-former Culver City High School student was assaulted by three boys in a car in the parking lot of school during class hours, an explanation has emerged for why only one boy, an 18-year-old, was charged by authorities.

Sources tell the newspaper that Dist. Atty. Jackie Lacey’s office did not file against the two (younger) boys because they believed the sex to be consensual.

Questions that need to be publicly answered by Supt. Dave LaRose, interim Principal Dr. Lisa Cooper and perhaps others:

  • How and when were students and their parents informed of the assaults?
  • How were the complicit students punished?
  • How four people publicly could be involved in sexual play in daylight – within sight of others – is a question that Supt. LaRose, former Principal Dylan Farris and others hopefully addressed during the last year.
  • What overt and covert changes has the District implemented since the girl’s rapes?
  • Was the reported mass exodus of football players prior to last season related to the assaults?
  • Has anyone in the District’s employ been disciplined – security or indoors personnel?
