Re “Mosque Will Host Christians in Unique Pre-Christmas Harmony Day”

The obviously courageous Mohammed Khan of the King Fahad Mosque says that “bridging the gap” was his objective when he thought up and began planning Saturday’s momentous Christian-themed program, “To Honor the Life of Jesus and Mother Mary.”

“Especially now, with all of the violence that is going on,” said Mr. Khan, the mosque’s director of interfaith and public relations. “Christian minorities are being persecuted by thugs.”

Churchgoers and leaders, he said, are equally invited to the 10:30 a.m. program where they will hear speakers from various realms of the Christian and Muslim worlds – in the solemn setting of the Washington Boulevard mosque.

The idea is to acquaint each other with the faces as well as convictions of two religions that Mr. Khan says have numerous similarities.

After the two-hour program, lunch will be served with the intention of deepening embryonic relationships.

Mr. Khan has consulted with each of the speakers. “I am telling them what we are trying to achieve,” he said. “This is not a debate format. It is more sharing what we have in common.”

The Mosque is at 10890 Washington Blvd.
