At least two arguments ranged against Principal Dylan Farris announcing last week that this afternoon would be his song of swans on the Culver City High School campus:
• “Two months into the school year is not a great time to move, and
• “We have built up momentum among students and faculty, but…”
Plum job opportunities, he said, don’t ask questions about timing.
With only the scant weekend to rearrange his mind for his new job, the dapper Mr. Farris launches on Monday morning as the new executive director of the El Segundo School District’s Human Resources Dept. The position has been called an assistant superintendency, making him No. 2 in the district.
Eyes gleaming, the thrilled Mr. Farris called the promotion “a tremendous opportunity to work for a very good district, to allow me to move into another area I can learn about, something that may one day lead me to being a Dave LaRose.”
Who could pass this up?
Not Mr. Farris.
Who can blame the congenial, ambitious 38-year-old bow tie- favoring educator who has more goallines to cross before he says fare thee well to his 30s?
No one in authority, and emphatically not Supt. Dave LaRose, who publicly bundled verbal bouquets for Mr. Farris as Closing Day neared.
