Marks Counsels Patience Until Downtown Changes Happen

[img]2801|right|Wally Marks||no_popup[/img]The traditional rigid policy of chain stores being reluctant to place two of their outlets too close to each other is likely to loosen up, says realtor Wally Marks.

As an example, he had just cited the current stance of a random Westfield Mall chain declining to place a store in business-hungry Downtown because of proximity.

“That will change and loosen up, I believe,” Mr. Marks said.

“Business” will nudge the change forward. “If there is a business that will work around any obstacles, if there are enough people, retail will be there.

“I just think it takes time,” he said in the wake of last week’s successful Future of Culver City program in the Hayden Tract. “The pendulum is swinging left and right. Right now it is very far to one side.”

Meanwhile, an old bugaboo still is rearing its head.

“The city is working with the businesses on a valet or other program,” Mr. Marks said, “because there is just not enough parking.”
