Dear Ari Noonan:

I was at the City Council meeting last evening, and I missed seeing you.  I don't know if you feel or receive my thoughts and prayers for strength for you and Diane…but please know that you are thought about daily.

At the meeting, I read a poem (see below) to thank the Police Dept. for the Citizens Police Academy that Charley and I both attended. Last week we received certificates of completion.

You have been such a great supporter for me and my poetry.  I am so fortunate to have your encouragement as I continue to write and work on developing more books.

Regards and best wishes to Diane.

Honorable Mayor Sahli-Wells and Council members: Last week, my husband Charley and I completed the seventh annual Citizens Police Academy, which we highly recommend to all Culver City residents.  The following poem is a thank you I read at the graduation ceremony. It will give you an idea of how much we learned from our excellent CCPD instructors

Culver City Police Dept. 2014 Citizens Police Academy

For weeks we’ve listened and learned
From the CCPDs best and brightest
Who have taken the time to teach us
So we’d be amongst the wisest

About the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics
And Organizational Values of the CCPD –
To do your best and to do the right thing
While treating people like your family

We learned the CCPD also Values
Professionalism, Tradition, Innovation
Integrity, Proactivity and Diversity,
While they follow the laws of the nation

We learned about the 4th Amendment
With its search and seizure clause
And three types of law enforcement…
Arrest laws which gave us all pause…!

Consensual encounters, detentions and arrests
Once we knew the difference, we moved on to the rest…

We covered internal investigations
And investigations at the scene of a crime
Recruitment and the Patrol Division
Animal Services and the team of K-9s

We found out about types of enforcement
Traffic, motorcycle and red light
Then we went to the firing range
And found that the test was out of sight…!

We think what they’ve managed to teach us
Made us stronger so we can survive,
And after all we’ve learned about our CCPD
We are glad that they are on our side…!
