Brown for signing his bill, AB 2310, to remove dangerous tenants and ensure safe neighborhoods. The bill gives city attorneys in Los Angeles, Oakland and Sacramento enforcement tools to crack down on illegal weapons and unlawful gun and ammunition sales by renters in their communities.

“My bill will provide city attorneys in Los Angeles, Oakland and San Francisco and landlords with an effective tool to remove dangerous persons,” Mr. Ridley-Thomas said. “By that I mean those who possess illegal weapons or sell guns and ammunition from the homes or apartments they rent.

“Assembly Bill 2310 will reinstate the authority and use of partial evictions to make communities safer.

“Criminals should not be allowed to paralyze neighborhoods. Without this tool, landlords must evict all tenants in a unit, including innocent persons, because the court has no authority to issue a partial eviction order,” he said.

Mr. Ridley-Thomas credited Los Angeles City Atty. Mike Feuer with diligent neighborhood safety efforts to rid our neighborhoods of illegal weapons.”

The new law allows the city attorneys to file an action for unlawful detainer against any person who is in possession of unlawful weapons or ammunition on real property or engaged in the sale of weapons or ammunition on real property.
