Dateline Pasadena – Expecting to learn the job-pursuing fate of President Mark Rocha any day now, the Pasadena Board of Trustees finally approved a 2014/15 calendar at Wednesday night's board meeting.
The war between the PCC family and Dr. Rocha, along with his reliable Board allies, continues.

Against the stated wishes of faculty, staff, student representatives and the college's calendar committee, Trustees approved the calendar Dr. Rocha supported.

This is the same calendar, the imposition of which was judged to be an unfair labor practice by PERB, the state Public Employment Relations Board.  Evidently, the Faculty Assn. intends to file a similar suit in this case.

Below is an email from Roger C. Marheine, outgoing president of the Faculty Assn. Shared Governance is his subject:

In the wake of the Board of Trustees' unfortunate decision to move forward with a calendar that excludes Winter, Steve Pell's eloquent clarification of  ESL's  pedagogical needs will be tied to our Senate colleagues' heroic defense of  Shared Governance and Winter.  I cannot recall a more conscientious effort on the part of my Senate colleagues,
who shared their well-researched arguments at the Board meeting Wednesday evening.

The fact that the Board actually sought an opinion from legal counsel which defended the Trustees' right not to take Shared Governance deliberations into account is both shocking and tragic.

That the Board actually seeks legal obstruction of Shared Governance input necessitates that the Faculty Assn. initiate an Unfair Labor Practice filing with the Public Employment Relations Board.  We are left with no choice. The FA does emphatically support all Shared Governance deliberations, and will we will do our utmost to support our colleagues and the students.

Thank you to Steve Pell and all of those faculty who are doing their best to defend our collegial programs.
