Angels on Our Shoulders

Not just on my shoulders. Yours, too.

How do we know they are there?  They are the coincidences — small and large — that happen to us all the time.

Those angels know just when to swerve our cars to the left.

They know just when to jerk our eyes open.

They know just when to send help our way.

A darling angel came to my wife’s shoulders the other day.  She took a freeway exit right into an unmarked construction zone.  She was stuck, with one side of her car resting about one foot below the other, and her wheels just safely between a pair of jutting-out iron rods.  At the moment she called me in trepidation, her angel helped her to spot a passing police car, allowed the officers to see her waving, and assisted the construction workers to free her car from its impasse.  Her angel even arranged for one of the police officers to drive her to a gas station.  My wife often drives on gas fumes.

Do our angels assist us just as much when we ask for help as when we do not ask?  Yes.

Do our angels always come when we call them?  No.  But they do listen.  Sometimes they must check with their higher authority.  I imagine they check for permission to act, and for the degree of action.

How can we help our angels? By taking just a minute to think —before we act in speech or deed.  Because we have free will, our angels cannot predict just when we will blurt out a spoken word or motoric act.

You may ask, “How do you know all this about angels?”

I believe.

That is the best answer I can give you.
