Re “Finance Committee Is Away to an Effective Start”

It ain’t all glamourous.
Take the top of the agenda for tomorrow evening’s 7 o’clock monthly meeting in the Dan Patacchia Room at City Hall.
Says committee chair Goran Eriksson:
“The city will make an in-depth presentation, by Public Works, on the potential and implications for the city stormwater drain mandate that has come down.
“We probably will spend an hour on that, listening to how Public Works talking about what’s needed and how they want to proceed, and what the financial implications are for the city.”
The committee’s assessment of the costs of the stormwater drain mandate is part of the work plan agreed upon between the City Council and the Finance Advisory Committee. The committee’s objective is to provide pragmatic assistance to the elected officials rather than merely serving as a doorstop.
The committee’s charge? “We need to come up with suggestions on how this could be financed as part of preparing for a decision by the City Council,” Mr. Eriksson said.
“The city is redoing its website, and we have had people studying it for recommendations on how it could be improved.”
When the committee was formed last year, the Council handed over a 10-part work plan. “Some were limited and some were very extensive,” Mr. Eriksson said. “Next then will be the budget process in the spring, and seeing how the finance committee organizes its work during this period.”
