The Rams are hoping that a change at the quarterback position will produce touchdowns and maybe keep them in the playoff race in the NFL Western Division.

Rookie Jared Goff, the No. 1 draft choice, will take over for Case Keenum.

Keenum has started all nine games for the Rams. They are 4-5 going into Sunday’s 1 o’clock game against the Miami Dolphins (5-4) at the Coliseum.

If Goff can supply the air power, hopefully that will open up the running game for Todd Gurley, Benny Cunningham and Malcolm Brown.

“We have to stay patient and stick to the game plan,” said Gurley at the Rams camp in Thousand Oaks. “We need to keep going in the right direction. If we  keep working hard, things will open up.”

Last week the Rams beat the New York Jets 9-6 on three field goals by Greg Zuerlein.

Punter Johnny Hekker was the other star of the game.  Hekker got off a 78-yard punt in the fourth quarter that put the Jets deep in their own territory.  When they Rams got the ball back in good field position, they put together the game- winning drive.

When the kickers are the stars of the games it is time to make a change at quarterback.

When Goff gets into the game, he will have several good receivers.  Kenny Britt, Brian Quick, Tavon Austin and Pharoh Cooper can make plays.

“This group is special because we rely on each other,” said Britt, the leading receiver.

Britt and Quick are big receivers who usually have a height advantage over defensive backs.

“I use my size,” Britt said. “I try to be physical at the line.

“I try to reach the ball at its highest point.  Regardless of what happens, our goal is to win.”
