Three pertinent facts about Dave LaRose:
- Tomorrow is Closing Day as superintendent of the School District after a lively, upbeat, refreshing, delightfully verbal and spirit-lifting four-year run.
- First post-super self-assignment: “To reacquaint myself with my wife (Mindi, 23 years), my best friend.”
- Next stop may be 10-gallon hat time: Increasingly, Houston, almost twice as large as any other Texas city, is looking like the LaRose family destination, especially since younger daughter Madi recently landed her first post-RN position there.
Mr. LaRose talked about his immediate future late yesterday afternoon in the Board Room, just ahead of a special School Board meeting on a facilities update.
Enough of the gypsy life. Not only from job to job, but from one far-flung state to another.
First, Dave and Mindi LaRose will take a short vacation.
“Then we will start mapping out where we might be located. Our youngest just moved to Houston. That might be something we will consider.”
Since marking the 50th anniversary of Mr. LaRose’s birth a few weeks ago, the family has been thinking more strongly about a permanent landing place, buying property so they can have the same address in their 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond.
“Since we have lived here, we have been renting,” Mr. LaRose said. “We have an interest in establishing roots. That will be a family decision. We would like to have (our own) property.
“Mindi and I have the vision of — we want that destination where, for generations to come, that is the place where everybody is coming, right?”
After nearly a quarter-century of marriage, a half-century of living, a place of their very own is a dream.
Together, they are hoping for a home that is an irresistible magnet for their two daughters (including actress Lyndsi), for other family, for friends and for colleagues.
