Mr. Eriksson, right, with fellow City Council candidate Jay Garocochea.

This may be the political analogy to Meals on Wheels – City Council on Wheels, or more precisely, on Wings..

They do not miss many meetings, although Mayor Jim Clarke and member Meghan Sahli-Wells were absent from last evening’s session.

The mayor will be on the road until Thursday evening.

Freshman Göran Eriksson, owner of two thriving enterprises, has just returned from his latest jaunt abroad.

Both Messrs. Eriksson and Clarke stack up miles almost tall enough to reach the clouds.

The former travels regularly to Europe on business.

Says Mr. Eriksson: “Since we work with the value added tax system and we have clients over there, I probably am over to Europe six, seven times a year.

“It varies, one week or two.”

However, as one of two new Council members elected in April, “that schedule will have to be adjusted,” Mr. Eriksson said.

Before deciding last year to run for the City Council, his international travel regimen “was one big discussion my wife (Britta) and I had – what the impact (on business) would be.”

Mrs. Eriksson operates the value added tax portion of the family businesses.

“She is going to be the expert in the United States on value added tax,” Mr. Eriksson proudly boasts. “She is frequently used by the Dept. of Commerce,” and is a sought-after featured speaker on value added tax.
