Sign of the immediate future?

Culver City apparently will/may not be affected by the controversial nationwide edict that the White House issued Friday regarding school bathrooms and transgender students.

Through spokesperson Rebecca Woods, Supt. Dave LaRose said this morning that transgender students may use the main bathrooms.

“If they do not feel safe,” Ms. Woods said, quoting Mr. LaRose, “we do provide alternate locations.”

The Obama administration said it was imposing a new policy applicable to all schools. It “allows” transgenders to use the restroom that matches their gender identity.

At this stage, affected students seemingly would have an option.

They would not be forced to use a separate facility.

Three days into the policy, the verb “allows” is open to interpretation. Does it mean required? Or does it give transgender students a choice?

Affected students seemingly would have an option.

They would not be forced to use a separate facility.

School District sources said that during the tenure of Dr. Dylan Farris, immediate past principal of Culver City High School, a District regulation was approved that assigned separate restrooms for the tiny number of affected transgender students.

Presumably then as now, the decision was up to transgender students.

No one in the District has any idea whether the Obama administration will accept the optional separate-but-equal regulation.
