Now that The Most Interesting Man in the World has been canned from his beer-promotion gig, this could provide an opening for new City Councilman Thomas Small.

Not to quaff beer.

To serve as heir to the Most Interesting title held by the otherwise anonymous beer guy.

From a standing start last December, Mr. Small arguably became The Most Interesting Man in the World of City Council Contenders.

At an upstairs fundraiser on the East Side two months before the election in which he attracted the second largest vote total, Mr. Small comfortably was introducing himself to a mostly architectural crowd:

“Boys and girls. Citizens of Culver City. Members of our esteemed and wonderful design community. I am so happy you are all with us here tonight.

“I am Thomas Small. Many of you know me already from some very diverse places you all have come from tonight. Some of you don’t know me.”

On the intriguing subject of diversity and multiple identities, Mr. Small said:

“I am running for City Council as an advocate for excellence in design.”

Voters could fit into their hip pockets all of the Council candidates in this century who billed themselves the way Mr. Small did. If the pocket had a hole, so much the better.

You would not even need a hip pocket to accommodate the rest of Mr. Small’s identity as an architectural consultant/journalist whose office is the globe. And by the way, fine arts maven.

His multiple identities help to partially explain his fascination to voters. His sophisticated manner of presentation resolves the other half of the puzzle.

It should be an interesting four- year ride, getting acquainted with Mr. Small’s workplace ways.
