Re: “Meghan Running Even Faster”

Culver City’s Eternal Election from Heck rolled into its third year this morning – although City Clerk Martin Cole insisted this only is the end of the second week of the City Council election.

Arcane final counting details still were being satisfied at mid-day. Depending on numerous dangling, not to mention obscure, details, Mr. Cole said the counting could conclude in early afternoon or mid-afternoon, and be posted on the city’s website (culvercity.org).

No high drama is at stake.

No one is holding his breath, or even swinging it casually over one shoulder.

The order of finish was cemented for the reconfigured City Council a week ago last Tuesday, the day of the election:

1. Incumbent Meghan Sahli-Wells, 2. Thomas Small, 3. Goran Eriksson.

The last gasp of lately received mail ballots, numbering 238, was to be tabulated yesterday afternoon. Done.

In the political orbit, “however” is a commonality.

However, even though no detectable glitches occurred, the outcome could not be revealed at the lunch hour, and Mr. Cole explained.

“The outcome will be revealed right after we complete the manual tally,” he said. “By law, we have to do the manual tally before we can certify.

“And by law, I have to get the City Council agenda packet out and posted before 7 o’clock tonight.

“Otherwise, we can’t hold the (7 o’clock) City Council meeting Monday night, which means we couldn’t’ certify election results, which means we couldn’t swear in Council members” — Ms. Sahli-Wells, and Messrs. Small and Eriksson.
