No Small Problem Facing Culver City

City Council candidate Thomas Small says Culver City is facing an imposing challenge:

“Ten new development projects will be built in Culver City over the next four years,” he said.

“That will mean 18,000 new cars in a two-square mile area will add more than 30,000 daily trips.

“I have a plan to ensure that development projects reflect Culver City values.”

This is the Small strategy:

Each development project must have a plan to mitigate traffic and parking concerns.

Using public transportation, bike-friendly and walk-friendly design, ridesharing, and other innovative transit programs are good means of cutting down on traffic.

Each development project must include sustainable design strategies and environmental building practices, Mr. Small said.

Each one must increase green open space. These practices, he assures his listeners, will enhance and protect Culver City’s environment.

Mr. Small said that every development project must include meaningful community input so that residents and business owners have a say in projects that will impact them.

Mr. Small identified the following statement as his guarantee.

“I will only vote to approve a new development if it is clear that the project will improve our quality of life, not harm it.

“While it is important for these projects to be profitable for the developers, they must also contribute to our community.”
