If the people won’t go to the election, the election will go to the people.

With the percentage of Culver City voters slipping nearly out of sight in recent years, the Chamber of Commerce will perform a public service next week:

On Tuesday, Feb. 2, the Chamber Political Action Committee will conduct a Meet the Candidates forum that will be open to the public – for the first time.

The program – at the Courtyard by Marriott, 6333 Bristol Parkway — will start at 8 o’clock, following a 7:30 breakfast and registration.

Important numbers to remember for the April 12 City Council election:

  • Three seats are at stake, which means that potentially there could be a 60 percent turnover on the five-person Council.
  • Meghan Sahli-Wells is the long incumbent who is eligible to try and retain her office.
  • Seven candidates are in the race.

“The Chamber’s endorsement has proven to be a significant boost for candidates during the last 15 years,” said Chamber CEO Steve Rose.

“The public will be able to listen to the candidates’ answers to important economic development issues facing Culver City in the coming decade.”
