[Dec. 16, 2015 – Letter to Vincent Kane, Special Assistant to Secretary Robert A. McDonald, Dept. of Veterans Affairs]
Good morning, Mr. Kane,
Late yesterday, a fellow Veteran sent me a news email with a subject title “Homelessness Chief Resigns.” My reaction was that you finally had done the honorable thing and resigned from your “homeless expert” anointment by Secretary McDonald whereby you promised to end Veteran homelessness in Los Angeles “by the end of 2015 and beyond.”
Instead, it was Gilbert Taylor, commissioner of New York City’s Dept. of Homeless Services, who had done the honorable thing and resigned because homelessness under his watch was increasing instead of decreasing.
Sound familiar?
In a recent Los Angeles Daily News editorial regarding Veteran homelessness in Los Angeles, you conceded: “Homelessness numbers probably are higher than people realize.”
How high?
It is public knowledge that the homeless Veteran numbers have escalated since you arrived 11 months ago.
Meanwhile, the exact numbers are being shielded from the public instead of you publicly shielding our homeless Veterans from the cold winter and inhumane living conditions.
You have 15 days to honor your promise, but you already admitted failure a long time ago and further admitted that the number of homeless Veterans are increasing instead of ending it per your pledge.
Mr. Kane, you are anything but an expert on Veteran homelessness. You are a failure. American taxpayers have paid you handsomely for your incompetence while thousands of Veterans remain homeless.
On behalf of the greater good of our disabled Veterans in Los Angeles, this is a demand notice that you follow the honorable lead of New York City’s Mr. Taylor and resign.
Sincerely,
Robert L. Rosebrock
