Mr. Tiggs

Third in a series.

Re: “‘Times Are Good Now, but What About Tomorrow?’”

With weeks still to go before City Council aspirants can file official papers, Marcus Tiggs’s run for office is rolling in first gear.

Two and a half weeks after formally launching his campaign, Mr. Tiggs will open a new series of meet ‘n greets featuring barbeques with the community.

The first opportunity to lunch with the candidate will be on Saturday, from 12 noon until 2, at Tellefson Park, 3998 Bentley Ave.

Fiscal responsibility at City Hall has been the theme of Mr. Tiggs’s early campaigning.

He asks, rhetorically, what the revenue backup plan is in case Measure Y, the half-cent sales tax passed in 2012 does not win voter approval for renewal in 2022.

Attorneys such as Mr. Tiggs, who specializes in insolvency cases, like to plan ahead. “I can’t say there is a guarantee Measure Y will pass again,” he says. “If it does, great. But what is the plan if it does not?”

During his two four-year terms on the Planning Commission, Mr. Tiggs intimately familiarized himself with the fiscal machinery and philosophy of City Hall.

“I am thinking about the generation (coming up),” he said. “Public safety is a huge thing for me. That encompasses a large percentage of our general fund, which is not uncommon for other cities. We need to maintain our public safety. That is a crucial part of the fabric that is the reason or a reason many of us moved to Culver City.”

(To be continued)
