Tiggs Accepts Finance Reform

[Editor’s Note: Mr. Tiggs has just announced his candidacy for the City Council in next April’s election.]

The City Council’s Tuesday night decision to adopt a new campaign finance reform ordinance mid-stream in the 2016 election cycle has put my campaign in a bit of a re-planning mode.

Campaigns that started earlier definitely can be at an advantage over late starting ones.

While I would have preferred this ordinance to become effective after the election, the presentation of the city’s legal team was most compelling.

The risk of litigation against the city and the related costs, in my mind, outweigh any hardships this ordinance may cause to campaigns or for that matter my campaign.

The last thing I think the city needs is a new legal bill to defend a lawsuit (or settlement) on this very matter, especially when the risks were known.

Therefore, I have to say the decision was proper. elecTiggs will simply adjust fine and move forward.
