A soft-spoken, easygoing gentleman who never would be mistaken for a political candidate has announced that he will make a second run for the City Council.
Attorney Marcus Tiggs ended several months of contemplation and speculation, joining Goran Eriksson as the first two formally declared candidates for next April’s merry-go-round.
Three seats will be open, two held by term-limited members. Therefore, a crowded cast of contenders is expected.
Mr. Tiggs probably is better positioned than he was for his first run for the City Council because he has heightened his profile.
Heavily involved civically, Mr. Tiggs is vice chair of the Fiesta La Ballona Planning Committee.
He has served two four-year terms on the advisory Planning Commission.
Further, he is around, serving as a volunteer for several organizations.
A bankruptcy lawyer, Mr. Tiggs is an adjunct law professor at the University of West Los Angeles School of Law.
He saw combat as a U.S. Army veteran, most recently in 2008-09, and later was a lieutenant colonel in the National Guard.
Under the banner of elecTiggs, Mr. Tiggs said that his will be “a grassroots campaign conducted with the highest degree of integrity and respect.
“Our city hungers for proven leadership, fresh ideas, positive solutions, someone who is not afraid to roll up his sleeves and tackle our future challenges. This is without losing the essence of Culver City and without automatically looking to residents for more tax revenues.”
